German Courses

The Language Resource Center (Sprachenzentrum) at the Darmstadt University of Technology offers Summerschool students four levels of German instruction:

Throughout the five-week Summerschool program students will have at least 80 hours of practical language instruction, which includes daily morning instruction as well as one weekly afternoon session designed for project work.

Each week German instruction focuses on a different thematic area, thus complementing the afternoon Cultural Studies program. The four thematic areas include:

  • Stadt (The German City)
  • Deutsche Geschichte und Kultur (German History and Culture)
  • Technologien (Technology)
  • Berlin

Here students will learn more about upcoming seminars and excursions through adapted texts, listening exercises, videos or excursions (i.e. visit to a nearby museum). In their handling of these themes, the main focus for students is to:

  • use to the fullest extent the language and cultural benefits of Darmstadt and its surrounding areas
  • through their interaction with the German-speaking environment reflect on their own culture and language during their stay in Darmstadt
