Report of the Internship

As it came time for me to look for an internship in January 2009 I thought the easiest thing to do would be to work in one of the companies with my parents, but this would be the last choice I would make. I just kept this option open in case I didn’t find or get accepted by another company. So I started to search online, when I suddenly found myself at the homepage of the TU Darmstadt Sprachenzentrum. I read a few different internship reports that were very interesting, so I decided to fill out an application. After a few days I got a reply. The TU Darmstadt accepted me as a intern. A few days later I went there for an interview. Miss Herold asked me some questions for example about what I planned to do there. Then she said that everything was alright and that I could start on January 19th. I was very happy that my first application was successful. Additionally I was the first in my class who had an internship.

On the first day, I was very excited. Mrs. Herold was very friendly while introducing me and showing me around. Then I also got my own workplace with a computer. In the following days I had to do several jobs which were very interesting, for example:

  • To update inventory-lists of magazines and audio books in Excel.
  • To put stamps on inventoried magazines.
  • To put together the information-materials of the TU Darmstadt Sprachenzentrum for the HOBIT 2009.
  • To gather the “Leistungsnachweise” according to the UNIcert certification and the notifications of the languages from students in boxes.
  • To check the courses which were taken by the students.
  • To visit the Japanese and the French courses.
  • To read magazines written in English, Spanish and French.
  • To get the mail for the “Sprachenzentrum” and distribute it to the teachers.
  • To visit the department “Netzwerkbetreuung” that is responsible for all the internal used disk space, the “Multimedialab”, the maintenance of all hard- and software in the University.
  • To visit the Summerschool. It is responsible for organizing the exchanges with partner universities of USA & Singapore. They also assist in searching for host families in the foreign countries.

But like in every other job, there are also some boring tasks which one must perform (ex. making copies)

The TU Darmstadt Sprachenzentrum provided me a good insight for different jobs and the university life of the students. I would like to say thank you to all who took care of me during the two weeks of my internship (especially Mrs. Herold and Mrs. Sonderecker). I was well integrated into the whole business and I felt comfortable the whole time.
