English

The English section of the Language Research Center offers not only language courses for students and employees, but also provides advice and assistance in setting up and running bachelor and master courses in English language. The students’ language skills are also tested during those courses.

The English course offer at the Language Center is divided into three sections:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL itp) und Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)

1. English as a general language

The goal of all courses is to develop and expand all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. In some courses, certain skills are specially trained. Usually these courses are offered for one semester. General topics provide the basis of all exercises, and all students are expected to actively participate. Not all courses are offered every semester.

2. English as a technical language

The main objective of the technical language training is teaching study- and work-relevant English. For these courses, the respective expertise plays an important role, so that these courses should not be attended during the first semesters. Extension of the specialized vocabulary, speaking, writing and intercultural knowledge as well as linguistic peculiarities of specialized languages are the main topics of these courses. Students should be prepared in such a way that they can successfully complete an internship or a semester abroad after completing a course. In consultation with the respective department, certain technical language courses may be accepted as interdisciplinary study achievements. Technical language courses are usually offered for two semesters, part I in winter and part II in summer semester. The scope of the courses is 2 SWS.

3. English for students of English studies

In consultation with the institute of linguistics and literature of the TU Darmstadt, the Language Resource Center offers certain English courses which are part of the compulsory or elective field of English studies. Not all courses on this field are offered every semester.
